About the event
Depart our pick up point in Glasgow and take the scenic drive past Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, before heading north west through Doune and Callander. We will pass through The Trossachs, alongside Loch Lubnaig and up Glen Ogle where, weather permitting we should start getting views of the Ben Lawers range as we drive down into Killin. We can use the public toilets and Co-op for any last minute snacks.
Our starting point is a 15 min drive away at the National Trust for Scotland car park. Even though Ben Lawers is the 10th highest Munro the starting height of around 450m makes it a popular choice for beginners.
The views we'll have during the walk will be of Loch Tay to the south and Schiehallion to the north. Also look out for wildlife including red deer, ptarmigan and grouse. Ben Lawers is hugely significant for botanists as it is renowned for its arctic-alpine flora, many of which are rare and endangered species.
We will steadily make our way north east with Beinn Ghlas in front of us and then up to the bealach at 900m. Ben Lawers should be in full view now. After we reach the top of Ben Lawers we can then choose to add on a second Munro, Beinn Ghlas as an alternative return route before descending back to the car park. We will stop for a toilet break at Killin before taking the same route home.
