15th, 16th, 17th July 2022
A 10.00am meet up at the Coffee and Bake shop cafe, west end of the A87 road bridge over Loch Long, in
the Dornie area. (about 10 mins West of Shielbridge and 15 min East of Kyle of Lochalsh on the same
road)
After introductions and final kit checks we will drive ENE for 15 mins to Killilan. Rucksacks on and
head off for a 3-day adventure around the hills of Killilan Forest area.
This ia a route I did on me mountain leader assesment.
The first day will see us reach the Corbett (hills over 2500ft) Sguman Coinntich 879m, climbing
through the trees from Killilan and tracking up the Allt a’ Choire Moir to the Bealach Mhic Bheathain.
From here we will hopefully have good views of our route for the day. We will head in an easterly
direction down a shoulder then contour around the hill of Sron na Gaoithe or if time allows, we can
go the short distance to its top. Heading East then North, our next target is Faochaig, another
Corbett at 868m. From here we should have views over to the Mullardoch Munros in the east and
the Monar Munros to the north. The giant hills of Torridon can be seen to the North West.
Dropping off the summit to the North East, we will find a suitable spot for our first nights wild camp.
The next morning after breakfast we can hopefully capture some good photos of the surrounding
Scottish Highlands. We will head down into the glen below and then make our way up the South
West slopes of Aonach Buidhe, our 3 rd Corbett at 899m and the highest point of our wild camping
trip. After taking in the views, we will head South East, heading for the North East end of Loch
Mhoicean and make our way SW to Carn na Braebaig, a Graham at 678m (Grahams are hills between
2000ft & 2500ft). We will drop down once more into the glen around Srath Duilleach for our second
wild camp.
Weather and time dependent, our final days walk out may take us over another Graham, Meall
Sguman 544m, before making our way back to the cars at Killilan, along the River Elchaig flowing
through the western reaches of Glen Elchaig.
At Killilan we can share our thoughts on the trip and say our farewells.
