About the event
Distance/Ascent/Time approx. 13km 1200m 7hrs
We will meet at the Mhor 84 car park off the A84 about 2 miles north of Strathyre and 3 miles south of
Lochearnhead at 8.30 then drive to the car park near Inverlochlarig.
We will leave the cars at 9.15am and aim to be back no later than 4pm.
We will start the day off by walking east along the road for just over 1km to where it crosses over the
Allt Carnaig a good warm up for the legs before we head onto the hillside. As we gain height
hopefully, we’ll have views on Loch Doine which is joined to the bigger Loch Voil by a small channel.
Once we reach Meall Monachyle we will look over “The Braes of Balquidder” which has a song written
about it the lyrics and melody are a variant of the song Wild Mountain Thyme (also known as Purple
Heather and Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go).
From here the ground eases out until we reach the top of Meall na Dige 966m. We will then head
west to Stob Coire an Lochain with views to the other hills around Crianlarich then head north west to
the Munro summit of Stob Binnein 1165m.
We will also look at navigation using the map, GPS and outdoor skills.
Footwear will be waterproof hiking boots, warm clothes and waterproof clothing. I will send on a kit list
in the confirmation email once booked.
